Special Crew Volunteer
Pan Massachusetts Challenge
(Fund-Raising industry)
July 1999 — August 2009 (10 years 2 months)
Long standing special crew volunteer for a major charitable fund raiser. My work at the PMC, while not a major career endeavor, is one of my proudest accomplishments. One of a handful of volunteers that shows up a week before the event for set-up and remains the week following for break-down.

• Implemented strategies to reduce waste and support smaller charitable causes.
• Changed water-stop supply distribution process resulting in substantially reduced waste.
• Modified post-event food collection procedure leading to reduced waste.
• Where open food items were previously disposed, located food kitchen operation that welcomed open food containers and pre-cooked meats;
• Reduced waste from 30% to negligible levels which contributed significantly to PMC receiving 2007 Second Helping Award from the Greater Boston Food Bank.
• Established contacts to donate unclaimed lost and found clothing to community assistance program.
• When nearly 1,000 portable sleeping cots became surplus (and were slated for a dumpster), located shelters in need including Father Bill’s Place, the Mainspring Shelter, Pine Street Shelter, and the New England Center for Homeless Veterans.
• Arranged to donate 800 cots to the Central Massachusetts Red Cross.
• Located nursery school network that was able to make use of out of date event shirts.
• Established informal procedure where we are able to provide several smaller charities with the supplies they may need for a post-PMC outdoor fundraising events (walks, hikes, etc.). Where the PMC deals with thousands of participants, a small, lesser known charity dealing with a couple hundred may not have the same ability, skill, or contacts to secure supply donations. Using our excess supplies including partially used cases, we are able to near fully supply the needs of a small event.
