Expert Profile
I currently represent several real estate clients in loan work out negotiations. I also represent a HUB consultant, providing consulting services to cities and non-profits regarding real estate matters. In addition, I provide contract drafting and review to engineering firms. My specialties are real estate, development, loan work outs, government contracting, environmental and construction law.
I joined a non-profit developer of affordable, senior and student housing, as its first in-house counsel in April of 2007, where I managed all activities of outside counsel, negotiated all vendor contracts, provided legal advice on all real estate and corporate transactions, and oversaw compliance with transactional documents. During that time, I was significantly involved in multiple loan workouts and closed a 13 property HUD transaction and several tax credit deals.
I have more than twenty years of legal experience, having served as the General Counsel of one of the major developers in the military housing arena. There I dealt with the complex financing of military housing transactions, the construction and development of the housing, property management and employee issues, as well, as, maintaining relationships with the military partners.
Prior to joining that company, I was real estate counsel to The Housing Authority of the City of Dallas, Texas, responsible for all aspects of financing affordable housing programs. I have extensive experience in drafting tax credit applications, negotiating tax credit partnership agreements, construction and permanent loan closings. I also have knowledge of the HUD grant process from grant application through completion and grant close-out and have managed HUD mixed finance transactions. I have also been involved in several bond financed transactions for construction of affordable housing in partnership with commercial developers. I served as the Housing Authority legislative liaison monitoring legislative activities affecting affordable housing.
I have also served as General Counsel to a national engineering and environmental construction company. In this capacity, I had a great deal of experience in all phases of the legal aspects of construction projects from proposal preparation and contact negotiation to final close-out. I developed an expertise in construction and environmental law, including all aspects of regulatory compliance.
