David is a pharmacist and a former Director of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. He has a wealth of experience of developing and influencing health policy at a national level. His understanding of how health policy affects both the pharmaceutical industry and pharmacy as a profession is recognised worldwide. He has worked extensively with NICE, MHRA and other healthcare bodies including a number of medical Royal Colleges. Key Achievements
Established the National Collaborating Centre for Primary Care, in partnership with the Royal College of General Practitioners and Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association, which is commissioned to produce clinical guidelines for the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
Chaired an International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) working group on collaborative practice, leading an international team to produce a policy on the position of pharmacist prescribing worldwide. The policy has been adopted by FIP and has already been used in Israel and South Africa to influence their governments to bring about legislative reform
Undertook a fundamental revision of the Society’s Code of Ethics and Standards receiving a 94% acceptance rate amongst pharmacists.
Appointed to a number of national committees and working groups including government organisations such as National Clinical Assessment Service, NHS Evidence, Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, National Audit Office, medical Royal Colleges and pharmacy specific groups
