1983 – 1990
Co-founded company to develop and capitalize my invention. Produced wire-wrapping machine and associated necessary software to allow the EE designer to take logical information from the schematic capture application and the physical information from the layout application, resolve the wire paths and create the matrix to be wired in the machine. The machine used an insulation-displacement wire wrapping technique which is the same as the Voyageur spacecraft - and it is still working since 1977.
Participated in IPO with LavalinTech a subsidiary of Lavalin Engineering (now SNC Lavalin) to raise C$10M.
Consultant - Designer
General Electric Nuclear (Peterborough)
With co-contributor Dr Jerry S. the retired Metallurgist from P&W we designed a nuclear fuel bundle brazing apparatus to perform the automatic assembly in vacuum (with a little Ar at 0Bar05) without human intervention. Subsequently I further consulted with Electric Boat for a similar requirement.
Communications Software Manager
MICOM Philips Electronics WordProcessing
Z80-based workstation pre-dated PCs. I wrote communications software to allow these WordProcessors to communicate with IBM mainframes in 2780/3780 protocol then a full emulation and implementation of 3276 with 3278 printer and 3270 concentrator. Developed (designed, coded, tested) Text Storage and Retrieval software for mainframe archival and retrieval of full format wordprocessing data.
EMACS on UNIX environment on Vax 11-780.
Supervised junior programmers for coding Z80 SIO subroutines and applications for common communications protocols.
Racing Officer - Regatta Chairman
Canadian Forces Sailing Association - Point Picard
With a partner I ran the world wide CF Regatta in 1992 and then continued on to run the racing program at CFSA Pt Picard. Since I was certified by CYA as a Race Chairman I enjoyed contributing to the management of many races on Lake St Louis.
1992 – 2002
Instructor: Marine Electronics, VHF Radio, HAM Radio
Canadian Power and Sail Squadron
I taught night courses at Lower Canada College (NDG) in Marine Electronics, VHF Radio (seminar - 3 week course) and Amateur Radio (VE2FEL) and in addition graded all English and French Marine Electronics from Eastern Canada. I supervised the VHF and Amateur Radio exams, corrected and scored the exams and issued the licenses on behalf of Industry Canada.
I discovered that I love to teach.
