The laws add 15,000 permits for clean-air vehicles to use car-pool lanes, give rebates to low-income residents to buy cleaner automobiles, require cities and counties to speed up permits for residential solar-panel installations and require the state to devise a plan to fight short-lived pollutants such as methane. “he has taken this very much to heart,” brian wynne, the president of the electric drive transportation association, a washington-based industry group, said in a telephone interview. “he’s doing what he sees as the right thing for his constituents and also being a leader nationwide.” what are your thoughts? Book On Climate Change

Call for authors- book on climate change (land-uses and forestry) we very happy to announce a new book project venture, an initiative with ***** science publishers inc. (ny) and the editing team including peers from brazil, spain, and australia. The new book is entitled land use, land-use change and forestry (lulucf), in reference to the unfccc framework (which is a starting point). This book is a compilation of 10-13 independent scientific articles, where each article is one chapter. Contributing authors must submit abstracts by august 15 (2013), and the full article by january 15 (2014). The contributions are in the format of scientific articles, but nevertheless there is flexibility for contributions (e.G., thesis, research, project, reviews, compilations, policy, discussions, etc). The abstract submission is about a 1 page long description of the proposed article and must include- title, names of authors, email contact information, affiliation, and draft abstract text (100-400 words) indicating the proposed idea for the article. The article will have a maximum of 10 pages and further guidance on formatting will be provided. Every and each abstract is very important to us, as non-selected abstracts are used to provide ideas to new books and all are invited again to take part in the coming books. There are no costs or revenues associated with being a contributing author. Contact me for further information. Thank you! silvia

Climate Change Risks And Impact Assessment

Climate change risks and impact assessment experience sme (certified carbon reduction manager (crm) - from energy & utility background) we are currently working on this opportunity for providing consulting services for climate change risks and impact on client’s business scope of work covers the following: • detailed impact assessment of the identified risks in light of global, regional and uae specific climate change trends , assessment of the existing and forthcoming strategies, policies and action plans prioritized based on the level of impact on client’s operations (e.G. Likelihood of a weather event occurring and severity). • analyze the vulnerabilities and identify possible effects on client’s most sensitive operations with respect to the demand drivers (air cooling demand increase, water desalination increase, demand patterns etc.) and possible effect on client’s supply infrastructure (turbine efficiency, plant cooling efficiency, coastal infrastructure flooding risk, salinity increase in arabian gulf, transmission loses, sub-stations and plant specifications etc.) and network. • conduct a qualitative and quantitative valuation for the most material facets. In terms of impact, the consultant might consider using different metrics necessary for client to quantify the risks (revenues, operational costs, social cost of carbon, mitigation goals etc.). • consideration on adaptation options that increase the resilience of client’s operations to the impacts of a changing climate prioritized based on criteria recommended by us and identify the adaptive capacity of client. • resilience plan to improve client’s adaptive capacity and respond to various climate change risks. • response measure in merit order to account of climate change risks. • model and tools to support client in periodic updates of the resilience plan. • proposed growth scenario (s) in a ‘regulated climate change’ situation. • working plan for the alignment with or integration of climate change risks into client’s corporate risk management portfolio and business planning. • relevant risk architecture, monitoring, stress testing, triggers and actions. • recommend appropriate financing models for the plan to be implemented. • training manual and material preparation • facilitate training experience requirements: • certified carbon reduction manager (crm) by the association of energy engineers, or equivalent if you feel this is your area of interest and meet any of the above three experience requirements, then please reply with your relevant experience. Global warming already is impacting “all continents and across the oceans,” and further pollution from heat-trapping gases will raise the likelihood of “severe, pervasive and irreversible impacts for people and ecosystems,” according to the document obtained by bloomberg. “without additional mitigation, and even with adaptation, warming by the end of the 21st century will lead to high to very high risk of severe, widespread, and irreversible impacts globally,” the un intergovernmental panel on climate change said. Nedc And Wltp Driving Cycles

Project brief: in the past our client has measured co2 levels and define targets according to nedc. Now, there exist 2 type of measures: nedc and wltp, each depending on respective country regulations. We would like to know how to handle these 2 different measures in the future. The objective of this consultation is to provide the nedc and wltp driving cycles measurement on emissions and find out if there is any conversion factor that needs to be used to convert nedc values to wltp and vice versa. Key questions to be answered by experts: 1) study on nedc and wltp driving cycle norms • the scope of implementation of nedc and wltp norms and their timelines • countries adopting nedc and wltp norms • analysis of nedc and wltp emissions of co2, nox and other pollutants as tested in various research studies 2) difference between nedc and wltp driving cycle norms (analysis of benefits of wltp over nedc) 3) emission estimation and/or calculation by oem manufacturers by model based on nedc/wltp norms (various manufacturers can be discussed during the call) 4) study on other standards of driving cycles used by other countries for emissions 5) case studies on the implementation of emission norms and targets by oem manufacturers or other major companies

Greenhouse gases are gases in an atmosphere that absorb and emit radiation within the thermal infrared range. This process is the fundamental cause of the greenhouse effect. In our solar system, the atmospheres of Venus, Mars and Titan also contain gases that cause greenhouse effects. Greenhouse gases, mainly water vapor, are essential to helping determine the temperature of the Earth; without them this planet would likely be so cold as to be uninhabitable. Although many factors such as the sun and the water cycle are responsible for the Earth's weather and energy balance, if all else was held equal and stable the planet's average temperature should be considerably lower without greenhouse gases.
