Display Screen Technology
Regarding a major university project involving the preliminary testing of a new display screen technology:
one of the requirements for that display involves the use of non-standard primary rgb wavelengths different than those used in typical displays. However, before they spec and build a new tft assembly, they need a testbed assembly where they can test (among other things) the effects of a number of slightly different wavelength combinations that create the phenomenon that is central to the project.
For example, that testbed for allowing them to test the use of various primary display wavelengths in the larger assembly could be:
1. An ordinary edge-lit lcd display whose light source is replaced by a filtered or otherwise discrete light source emitting only (within a reasonable fwhm) those desired non-standard wavelengths. It’s a lab testbench so form factor is not a limitation. Also, and fortunately, the non-standard wavelengths have adequate magnitudes in the wavelength/irradiance curves of factory cie-typical screen color filters. Thus, the existing screen filters, without modification, will allow transmission of the non-standard wavelengths (although project programmers will have to adjust image pixel brightness to attain a normal magnitude). However, the new light source’s wavelengths need to be somewhat adjustable (e.G., by filter selection, color source replacement or frequency shifting such as is possible with diffraction based and wheel-based color sources). 2) a modified dlp projector whose original color wheel filters can be replaced with notch filters for the desired non-standard wavelengths. Or…
