Nursing Independent Assesment
An individual with intellectual and developmental disabilities who has skilled nursing needs has maxed out on her insurance benefits, and insurance is no longer paying for the 16 hours of nursing care per day she used to receive. She lives at home with aging parents who are not able to provide care 24 hours a day. The county supporting this individual seeks an independent nursing assessment by a licensed rn to address what level of caregiver is appropriate to meet this individual's needs, and to speak to how much care per day is required. There is a disagreement between the nursing agency currently providing the care and the regional nurse associated with this individual's funding source as to what level of caregiver will best meet the needs of this individual.
I work in a healthcare quality unit and hands on assessments are beyond the scope of our practice. My role is to provide resources to the counties which oversee our program. I am gathering the names of nurses who can perform the assessment this county seeks and will submit this information to the county. The county will choose a nurse to perform the assessment and negotiate payment with the nurse. A nurse with sharp assessment skills with a solid background in either med-surg or critical care nursing would possess the knowledge to address this issue. Experience working with individuals who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities would also be beneficial. Lastly, working knowledge of waiver funding in the commonwealth of pa would be helpful, but is not required. Thank you for your time and consideration of this case.+1 Other Responses
