Business manager, food industry
primary purpose/objectives of the job:
the business manager is responsible for developing, directing and achieving the short and long-term objectives and strategies for the specialty phosphates product line(s) including optimization of assets & technology and is accountable for achieving financial commitments.
The business manager leads new product development and market expansion activities. He/she interacts with cross-functional counterparts and senior management to ensure the appropriate resources are devoted to the product line(s). Business manager must also demonstrate functional and organizational leadership beyond their product line.
Establishes and directs the development and implementation of the product line’s short and long term plans including volume, profit and spending objectives, marketing strategy, global branding and market penetration.
Oversees the execution of product line initiatives through the commercial operations and sales teams and other functional areas to ensure resources are allocated to achieve top line sales goals and bottom line profit goals.
Ii. Key responsibilities:
develop short and long term strategy and plans for the business that includes
understanding and analysis of market/industry trends
understanding and analysis of competitive set and share trends
understanding and analysis of customer segmentation, customer needs, and consumer/customer trends
understanding and analysis of the global economy including key geographic areas and their impact on specific businesses; this includes market attractiveness and regulatory and legal awareness
establish and manage product/brand image, position, and price
on-going monitoring of key data including share, volume, costs, etc.; communicate trends and actions to mgt.
Develop communication materials that reflect the brand positioning and image.
Work with supply chain group to optimize the supply chain strategy for the asset & product line including optimizing costs while meeting customer demand
define customer segmentation and ensure inventories are allocated to priority customers
drive product improvement initiatives including enhancing quality and meeting regulatory requirements in various markets
iii. Required skills, knowledge and experiences: (essential to the position)
must have food industry experience
mba in marketing preferred, ideally with an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering or scientific area
5-8 years of business experience preferably in sales or marketing role in a chemical company
knowledge of manufacturing and selling in the chemical industry preferred, previous knowledge of phosphate industry a plus
team leadership including ability to motivate individuals in pursuit of a common objective
strategy development and understanding of key marketing principles
ability to think strategically and execute tactical operations too
