Researchers at los alamos national lab in new mexico used laser-driven neutrons to detect clandestine nuclear materials. The laser pulse contains 50 times more energy than the entire production of worldwide electrical power. If the neutrons encounter nuclear material, they cause fission and release more neutrons. Will it lead to the development of small, portable neutron interrogators that could be used at border crossings to catch nuclear smugglers?
This is a great marketing opportunity to get your name and expert opinion published on our blog. Here is a sample: http://blog.Zintro.Com/2012/01/16/keystone-xl-pipeline-pros-and-cons/

Nuclear Equipment Maintenance
I am writing on behalf of a consulting firm that conducts expert interviews in support of industry-wide studies for many of the world's fortune 1000 companies. We help businesses answer questions by engaging with the world’s most relevant experts. So far we have delivered over 750 studies with input from over 15,000 individuals. We are an authorized zintro partner.
For a current study, we are trying to understand the challenges in servicing and maintaining nuclear equipment. We are seeking nuclear engineering consultants that have nuclear/plant maintenance experience (recent) and can speak to challenges/pain points they see in this space. Please note, we are focused on experts in the united states or europe region.
Please note that we are only interested in your personal point of view and expert insight and are not seeking any confidential information.
We are scheduling 45-60 minute discussions with experts this and next week and are happy to offer a negotiable usd 250 compensation for each interview. Please note that we are handling the standard zintro fee separately, hence the expert is not involved in paying this.
We would welcome any referrals to other relevant experts as well.
Thank you in advance, and i look forward to hearing from you.

From a layman's perspective, i think i understand the process of controlled fission and how it supports elec power generation. The only part i can't seem to find information on is how the process actually starts. I see how the reactors controll the process and can even stop it. But when i look at how it starts, all i see is that a neutron has to bombard the plutonium or uranium to start the reaction/atom splitting.
Does this just just occur naturally when the materials are in proximity or is there a device used to start the reaction afterwhich it is controlled by the nuclear plant mechanisms?

question: germany just announced that it is closing all of its nuclear power plants by 2022. Experts think that the country will move toward filling the energy gap with renewable energy. What do you think? Will the technology be advanced enough by then? What needs to happen in the meantime and will other countries follow suit?
If you are interested, please send me your response via znotes in the next day or two. If you have any questions, please let me know.

since the sun is a constant nuclear reaction much larger than the earth, it could hypothetically serve as a dump for the tens of thousands of tons of nuclear waste humans have accumulated. While nasa currently has two probes orbiting the sun, there isnât a firm on the planet with a spotless launch record. How do the benefits stack up next to the risks?
