Acoustical Engineering

How much time should it take for an acoustical engineer to determine the iic rating for a condo flooring install if they are given the make up of the building construction and the type of flooring installed? I was quoted 8 hours of work at $140, but i can't afford that cost!

Audio Engineering

We are looking for a full turn key solution for a few headphone audio products. The following specs are for the desktop amplifier. Technical specs - must meet or exceed the following frequency response - +/- 0.1 db thd 1khz @ 150 ohms - .0016% thd 1 khz @ 15 ohms - .0023% thd 20 hz @ 15 ohms - .0023% thd 20 khz @ 15 ohms - .010% noise - must be at a minimum -100db, would prefer 105-110 max output @ 15 ohms - 400mw max output @ 33 ohms - 700mw max output @ 150 ohms - 600 mw output impedance - minimum .5 ohms, would be nice for .1 ohms crosstalk @ 15 ohms - 70db channel balance - .5db or lower features - both 1/4'' and 3.5mm outputs - no more adapters. It's one of the major limits of the objective2 that we can't have both outputs for all headphones rca inputs and outputs - pretty simple and a standard in most designs usb and optical inputs - again a limiting factor in the odac. We would like to use the type b connector if possible. No drivers - we will be using the same class1 driverless dac chip. Will work with all os's. (linux, windows, and mac) small design, 2-3 models - much like the o2/odac, we plan on selling just the amp, just the dac, or an all in one unit. Everything will be in a small compact case hopefully not much bigger than the standard o2 case extruded aluminium case - to save costs we plan on using extruded aluminium design for a case. Microphone pass through - another feature that we would like your input with. A lot of gamers have analog headsets with microphone costs - realistically the most important part. We are looking at the $100, $200 and $300 price point for 3 different models. What do you think? Gain? - gain switch (in the rear) we plan on having possibly 3 gain levels - 1x, 2x and 6x. This will cover 99% of the headphones on the market power!!!! - we plan on having the same output volume as the o2 (or higher if possible without clipping). For the portable design i'd like to have something like this. Specifications will have to be just as good if not better than what he has. I would also like to omit the bass boost option. I've tried it, and it makes a lot of headphones sound bad.

Acoustics

I am planning to change my townhome's carpet to hardwood with noise pad, and the hoa requires certification of the noise transmission of the new material. I am looking for someone to support the hoa's requirement: certification and signature of an acoustical engineer certifying that the new floor will provide equal or better quality and noise transmission, and that such construction is to code. Current material is basic carpet on 3/8 5lb pad. New material will be bamboo hardwood on acoustic sound underlay with ratings of iic=71 and stc=73. Subflooring is plywood on wood frame and will not be changed in this remodel. Please highlight if you can meet this requirement with a signed letter and your quote for this service.

Acoustic Loss

I am looking for an expert on polymeric materials for acoustic impedance matching in the frequency range from 5-50 mhz. The ideal expert will have a wide breadth of practical knowledge about commercially available solutions (both the vendors, and the casting/ manufacturing techniques) as well as understanding about what differentiates useful materials (acoustic impedance from 2 – 9 mrayl) at the molecular level. In particular, what drives acoustic loss and how it can be minimized by materials selection, and cross-linking. Filled materials are not an option for the application, only pure polymers. The desire is to find a “go-to” expert for a long-term relationship with our product development team. I am looking for someone with direct experience in this frequency range with a demonstrated track record of understanding and developing polymers for ultrasound applications.

Audio engineering is a part of audio science dealing with the recording and reproduction of sound through mechanical and electronic means. The field draws on many disciplines, including electrical engineering, acoustics, psychoacoustics, and music. Unlike acoustical engineering, audio engineering generally does not deal with noise control or acoustical design. However, an audio engineer is often closer to the creative and technical aspects of audio rather than formal engineering. An audio engineer must be proficient with different types of recording media, such as analog tape, digital multitrack recorders and workstations, and computer knowledge. With the advent of the digital age, it is becoming more and more important for the audio engineer to be versed in the understanding of software and hardware integration from synchronization to analog to digital transfers.
