Thin-film Solar Technology

I am writer for ecoseed – a partner association with zintro, and an internationally leading destination for news and commentary pertaining to renewable energy, the environment and the global economy. I am working on an article on c.I.G.S. Thin film technology and am looking for your expert opinion on the questions below. Your response may be used in an article that i will write and post on the ecoseed site. If it is used, you will be named in the article and a link to your expert profile on zintro will be included. Your contribution is voluntary (there is no payment involved). This will provide you with a great marketing opportunity to get your name and expert opinion published. Question: i have heard that c.I.G.S. Has the best efficiency of the materials used in thin film but also that it is the hardest to manufacture, is this true? What are the advantages and disadvantages of c.I.G.S. Thin film technology? Question: what are some of the barriers to its commercialization and what is the most promising applications for c.I.G.S.? would it be better for residential-sized or utility-sized project use? Or other applications such as building integrated photovoltaic’s? If you are interested, please send me your response via znotes in the next day or two. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you!

I am a postdoctoral student at ***** ***** university in the center for sustainable materials (csmc). I am taking a course through an nsf funded center, the chemical center for innovation, where we are learning how to identify possible market/application pairs for which our science has the possibility to contribute. Given a market application, the approach we are taking begins with a market analysis in which we identify market needs and the scientific challenges to which they apply. The approach follows by utilizing this data to develop an informed research plan, with possible longer-term goals including application for funding via an arpa-e grant. I, along with two graduate students in the csmc, are currently at the stage of the detailed market analysis, specifically focusing on applications of thin film piezoelectric materials. We are looking to hire a consultant such as yourself for initially an hour of your time and your expertise in piezoelectric materials. If you are interested, please email me at **** if you have any further questions or would like to arrange a conference call. Alternatively, if you are no longer involved in consulting or do not have time, we would greatly appreciate if you have any recommendations for consultants who work in this market. Kind regards, michelle ****
