Expert is currently an independent technology consultant. He is an expert in Computer Vision, Image Analysis, Computer Graphics, Appearance Modeling and Rendering, and 2D and 3D Data Acquisition, having had 19 years of research experience in these areas, including experience acquired at the University of Cambridge (1993-94), Stanford University (1995-96), Yale University (1996-2006), and the University of Cyprus (2007-2011). He specializes in the development of novel algorithms for face recognition under variable imaging conditions, the estimation of object surface geometry and reflectance from digital images, 3D model acquisition, and the recovery of scene geometry from different image cues. His work has been presented and published broadly in international refereed conferences and journals, and has been cited extensively in subsequent scientific publications. Application areas include: face recognition, surveillance, general object recognition, image-based rendering, digital restoration and the visual arts, cultural heritage documentation, 3D digital libraries, content-based image retrieval, reverse engineering, and industrial inspection and design.

Expert received the BA (Honors) degree in electrical and information sciences from the University of Cambridge in 1994 and the MS degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1996. He earned the PhD degree in electrical engineering from Yale University in 2003. He is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the IEEE Computer Society, the ACM Special Interest Group on Graphics and Interactive Techniques (SIGGRAPH), and Eurographics. He has published, among others, in the ACM Transactions on Graphics, the IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, the IEEE Transactions on Computers, and the ACM Transactions on Applied Perception. He also holds one issued U.S. patent.
