Project Manager II (Contract worker)

Duke EnergyCharlotte

The first project was completed within budget and on-time. It was a project to collect in a man-made lined basin (using the basement of a demolished powerhouse) and installing piping, pumps, electrical controls, and transmission lines to meet needs in collecting drains and stormwater on the site that would meet a 10-yr stormwater event. The project was successful.

The second project involved constructing a wastewater treatment facility utilized for the removal of arsenic and selenium from plant wastewaters. The process while proprietary was a state-of-the-art process and unique for the industry. The project wasn't completed at the end of my contract which was not renewed, pending further lawsuits by environmental groups.

Sr. Project Director

Austep, Inc.Charlotte, NC

Sr. PM for Italian company purchasing land and constructing the first two Biogas facilities in N.A. solely operating to produce electricity utilizing food wastes. Each facility (one in Charlotte and one in RI). My role was to work with Italian engineers to hire contractors and obtain permits, as well as, develop the plant operational processes that would meet NC and RI standards for operations. I managed the projects successfully for approximately 10 months, until the Sponsor, a group from Israel decided to take the project over. The confusion and delays created strife among the Italian engineers and company president. As a result, I resigned because of the loss of cohesion and direction. The plants were completed, but because NCDENR did not agree to the development of rules for using food wastes and the storage of methane gas for the combined heat and power engine, the plant remains inoperable.
