I provide commercial and strategic advice to a range of companies as an employee and as a consultant – with KPMG and independently. Much of this work has been in the media and digital publishing sectors, with a recent focus on education. I am able to operate in new sectors rapidly, and have worked with major established players and star-up organisations.


Nov 2012 - present: Managing Director of Praxis Media. Set up a company to deliver strategic advice to business and other organisations providing commercial products to the education sector. Projects have included:
• Working with the NFER to develop a consistent approach in selling to schools
• Providing acquisition support for a major education publisher
• Providing platform migration support for a major education publisher
• Developing a UK market entry strategy for a Finnish Digital Marketing company
• Supporting a US lesson capture company enter the UK Schools and FE market

2005 - Nov 2010: Managing Director of i-nfer assessment Limited. Following up on a consultancy project, the National Foundation of Educational Research (NFER) asked me to set up and run a commercial subsidiary to deliver an e-assessment product and revenue to the NFER. I controlled Product Development, Sales and Marketing, and reported to a board made up of trustees of the NFER. Key successes included:
• Development of a complex product on schedule and on budget
• Managing relationships with suppliers to deliver channel and marketing capability
• Interaction with Government, Local Government and the wider education sector

2002-2004: Business Development Director for Collins Education, a Division of HarperCollins publishers. Responsibilities included electronic publishing strategy development, partnership development: In addition, I sat on the Collins Education executive and managed the Digital Learning department.

1998-2002: Media Industry Segment Manager/ Consultant for KPMG Assurance. Role was to work with the client facing staff and business development team to ensure that the KPMG Information Communications and Entertainment (ICE) Line of Business met its challenging growth targets in the Media segment. Responsibilities included business planning, thought Leadership, Account Management and Business development.


1993-1994 M. Phil. at Cambridge University in the History and Philosophy of Science.
1990-1993 Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University. First Class Honours in Natural Sciences. Honorary Senior Scholar of Gonville and Caius College, and awarded the Rooke Scholarship.
