Ken’s interest in category management started while working with Osram Sylvania increasing sales for the lighting category. Ken holds a BS in Advertising from the University of Florida.

Expert in working cross functionally with retailers and manufacturers.

Summary:

I have developed a wide range of skills through a career that has been unique in that all positions were new ones to the companies I worked for.

For example, I was hired by Kinney Drugs to develop a store planning process complete with category management best practices to effect changes to the Total Store and adapt to new and future market conditions including increased competition from new Wal-Mart’s and Walgreen’s stores in the market area. My goal: Improve shareholder value and profit by improving sales and profits per foot in the total store environment.

To accomplish this:

I created a complete analysis of the current environment. Started a collaborative category management process.

Trained the buying staff and worked to liaison with the IT to identify and purchase a Business intelligence tool that will be a first step towards leveraging insights from real-time POS.

Kinney's has the capability to compare sales by upc detail, by day, and by store year over year.

Additionally I have worked to create the atmosphere and relationships with

both AC Nielsen and the Supplier/Manufacturers of Kinney's to facilitate the creation and use of a new "AC Nielsen Trading Area specific to Kinney's Drug.

This Trade Area, built and maintained by AC Nielsen, is the foundation of a new fact-based collaborative sharing of key category and product information that will help

Kinney's identify/clarify opportunity gaps and competitive inroads into their markets.

Manufacturers using this information provide additional resources, both space management and analytical, that allow Kinney's the same access to resources that National Retailers have used.

In summary, I have worked with all levels of management and tried to both create and communicate a vision of future analytics and processes to enable better decision making and help with the time management of the overall category review process. I have functioned as a team player and worked to assist and develop key systems and reports that will aid in executive decision making and enable better access to key performance metrics.
