Business Performance Improvement Consultant and Supply Chain Specialist

Michael is the President of Arace & Associates, LLC (A&A), a General Business Advisory with a specialty in leveraging Sales, Customer Service, Transportation, Logistics and Supply Chain Processes to accelerate growth and optimize financial results. Unlike most traditional consulting firms, A&A not only develops optimized solutions but ‘leads’ the customer through the execution process to insure success.

Michael has extensive P&L experience having served as COO for a $25 million regional distributor, SVP for a $100 million consumer goods manufacturer, VP for a $45 million global logistics provider, VP for a $120 million Third Party Logistics (3PL) company and GM, Asia for a $25 million pan-Asian logistics provider (while domiciled in Hong Kong). He has held numerous other senior positions in Operations, Sales and Administration. Michael is passionate about continually and measurably improving results, thrives on challenge and possesses the experience and judgment to affect positive change during periods of economic uncertainty – whether growth or downturn related.

Prior to launching A&A, Mr. Arace led the Operating and International Supply Chain activities of a prominent residential lighting manufacturer serving the US mass-retail market. During this period, the firm grew from $35 to $110 million with market leading customer service and cost levels. Michael also developed and executed a Business Integration Plan which yielded $1.8 million in economic value following the acquisition of an $18 million US lamp shade manufacturer.

Previously, Michael was recruited to resurrect the failing logistics subsidiary of a regional real estate firm with extensive, but aged, Industrial Park holdings in New York. As COO, he leveraged exceptional rail car handling capacity to deliver the cost advantages of long-haul rail (versus truck) to the New England grocery and food service markets. Once repositioned, annual revenues grew nearly 500% to $25 million, Industrial Park occupancy rose from 71% to 96% and the parent was able to substantially increase rents to all tenants.

Michael began his career as a trainee with Sea-Land Service, Inc., then a holding of CSX Corporation and the largest US Flag carrier. During his 22 years with SLS/CSX, he developed an internal reputation as a creative team builder able to fix underperforming organizations and assets. His work yielded performance improvement in a number of areas including service levels, cost optimization, sales volume and mix improvement, revenue improvement, organizational efficiency, asset utilization, new market entry, new products and services, Return On Invested Capital (ROIC) and overall Business Unit profitability. Customers viewed Michael as creative, willing to invest the time required to understand and quantify their needs and, in particular, his ability to bring the full range of SLS/CSX capabilities to bear on their unique business challenges.

Michael holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Temple University where he also participated in inter-collegiate baseball and basketball. He lives in Scranton, PA and has two grown children, Michael (31) and Alexandra (30); both graduates of the University of Maryland, College Park.
