Michael specializes in:

Michael received his MBA from Harvard Business School and BA with highest academic distinction from Brigham Young University.

Michael and his team have raised $100s of millions of capital from top private equity and financial sponsors, including: Bain Capital, Charles River, General Atlantic, General Catalyst, Greylock, Kleiner Perkins, Hellman & Friedman, Levine Leichtman, Madison Dearborn, Monitor Clipper, among others.

Michael was most recently the Chief Executive Officer and President for National Corrective Group which is the country’s largest provider of business services to nearly 200 Prosecutors nationwide. Michael led a $20 Million investment in the company and expanded its footprint over 115% while increasing EBITDA margins to over 40%.

Michael co-founded General Catalyst Partners (GCP), a $1 Billion private equity firm located in Boston, as a General Partner. GCP is a “hands-on” investment firm where each Partner has significant entrepreneurial and officer-level operational skill. GCP specializes in growth buy-outs and venture investments and has successfully raised four successive funds since its inception.

Michael co-founded Upromise in 1999 and served as its initial President. Upromise is the dominant multi-partner U.S. consumer loyalty program providing its 12 million members with hundreds of millions of college savings rebates annually from its contributing partners including: Citibank, Coca-Cola, McDonalds, Exxon/Mobil, AOL and GM. Upromise also operates an in-house investment brokerage subsidiary (member: NASD/SIPC) with 17 direct and adviser-sold programs in 11 states, Upromise administers more 529 programs than any other company and manages $18.2 billion in assets, second only to Los Angeles-based American Funds Investment Co. Upromise was acquired by Sallie Mae for over $300 Million.

Michael helped co-found SmartBargains, Inc. in 2000 alongside the senior leadership at AOL and Gordon Brothers (the leading retail liquidator for the world’s largest retailers and brands). GSI Commerce acquired the Company in 2009 for $350 Million

Michael also co-founded M-Qube, Inc. in 2001 and led the firm as its initial President. M-Qube is the leading mobile text-messaging platform for the world’s top wireless carriers and brands. M-Qube partners and customers include: AT&T, Verizon, Taco Bell, and Clear Channel, among many others. M-Qube was acquired by VeriSign for $250 Million in 2006.

Michael previously worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and Monitor Company where he supported senior clients in the areas of operational improvement, M&A, growth buy-outs, product development, sales force redesign, and customer loyalty marketing.

Michael also previously was acting Chief Marketing Officer for the turnaround team engaged at Metabolife International, the brand leader in the weight-loss nutraceuticals space, while also spearheading a management buy-out effort.
